Labor Market Polarization Expected Depending on Utilization
"AI Command Engineers Will Establish Their Positions"
Six out of ten citizens believe that the widespread use of generative AI, including the AI chatbot ChatGPT, will increase productivity, according to a public opinion survey. However, they also anticipated a reduction in human jobs.
On the 9th, the blockchain-based online survey platform 'The Poll' conducted a survey from the 28th of last month to the 3rd of this month targeting 26,860 people about the impact of AI on jobs, revealing these results. When asked whether they thought jobs would decrease due to AI technologies such as ChatGPT, 59.3% of all respondents answered, "AI will take over many tasks, and human jobs will decrease."
Responses indicating that "jobs will increase" accounted for 21.1%. The remaining 19.6% voted "I don't know."
Regarding the scenario where AI completely replaces all jobs, the most common negative outlook, at 49.1%, was that "the wealth gap will worsen, and humans will become less useful, leading to a dystopia." Positive perceptions that humans will be liberated from work and appropriate systems will be introduced accounted for 29.2%.
When asked how much the generative AI ChatGPT, which has recently gained the most attention, helps with productivity, about half of respondents saw it as helpful, with 29.7% saying "somewhat helpful" and 20.2% saying "very helpful."
The outlook for the new job of "prompt engineer," who creates commands (prompts) needed for generative AI and trains AI-related personnel, showed that 39.1% believe it will become an institutionalized occupation, slightly higher than the 31.2% who think it will become obsolete like the "information search specialist."
Although AI development does not necessarily lead to mass unemployment, experts suggest that measures are needed as labor market polarization may occur depending on AI utilization capabilities.
