The ‘Jangseong 5 Major Food Streets’ project, a campaign promise of the 8th term of the elected government in Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, has officially kicked off.
On the 6th, Jangseong-gun held a ‘Feasibility Analysis and Activation Plan Service Kickoff Meeting for the Creation of 5 Major Food Streets’ in the situation room on the 2nd floor of the county office. The meeting was presided over by Kim Han-jong, the head of Jangseong-gun, with about 20 participants including responsible officials and related personnel.
The ‘5 Major Food Streets Creation’ project aims to develop unique foods exclusive to Jangseong-gun and foster the area as a tourist attraction. Using food as a medium, it links tourism demand with local income.
This service marks the initial stage of creating the Jangseong 5 Major Food Streets. The core tasks include ▲analysis of Jangseong-gun’s basic environment and investigation of domestic and international dining tourism trends ▲collection of comprehensive opinions from stakeholders and consumers ▲survey and feasibility analysis of candidate sites for the 5 major food streets ▲and establishment of annual and phased food street creation and activation strategies.
Starting with the kickoff meeting, Jangseong-gun plans to continuously share opinions with experts in various fields and industry workers. A mid-term report meeting is scheduled for June, and a final report meeting is planned for September.
Kim Han-jong, head of Jangseong-gun, stated, “Once the Jangseong 5 Major Food Streets are established, they will create a synergistic effect along with existing food cultures such as Baekyangsa temple cuisine,” adding, “We will establish it as a representative food destination of Namdo and create a new turning point for tourism in Jangseong.”
Jangseong-gun is operating a dedicated task force (TF team) composed of experts in various fields to create the 5 major food streets, and plans to promulgate the ordinance on the creation and support of Jangseong-gun’s food-specialized streets within this month. In the future, training programs are also planned to comparatively study domestic and international cases related to food street development.
