IM is expanding its ESG (Environmental, Social Responsibility, and Governance Improvement) business related to waste management.
Optical technology-based electronic component manufacturer IM (CEO Kim Tae-dong) announced on the 6th that it has signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Busan Equity Partners regarding the treatment of Solid Refuse Fuel (SRF) and other matters.
Through this agreement, the two companies plan to collaborate on the installation and operation of SRF steam supply facilities. The company explained that this cooperation was decided as part of its eco-friendly ESG business.
Previously, IM signed an agreement with BEE, a consulting and operation management company related to eco-friendly energy, for the development of an SRF power plant project (WTE). According to the company, the SRF power plant can solve waste problems while also generating electricity.
An IM representative stated, “The domestic waste treatment market size is expected to grow to around 23 trillion won by 2025,” adding, “From 2026, direct landfill of volume-based waste in the metropolitan area will be prohibited, and plans to install resource recovery facilities in the form of combined heat and power generation at the metropolitan landfill site are being actively pursued.”
He continued, “Our company plans to continuously strengthen ESG management.”
Meanwhile, IM’s main business sectors include OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) modules, smart films, optical modules, automation equipment & JIGs within the smartphone manufacturing industry. In particular, it develops and produces 200-megapixel OIS actuators (Actuator, ACT) and supplies them to smartphone manufacturers.
