Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 6th that it has launched the ‘Universe Hydrogen Electric Bus,’ which will lead a sustainable future in the passenger transportation sector.
The Universe Hydrogen Electric Bus is an eco-friendly vehicle equipped with the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell system in the high-speed large bus class, emitting no pollutants from energy production to operation.
Hyundai Motor Company equipped the Universe Hydrogen Electric Bus with a hydrogen fuel cell system with a maximum output of 180kW, an Anti jerk motor with a maximum output of 335kW and maximum torque of 1200N·m, and a high-output 48.2kWh lithium-ion battery. The driving range on a single charge is up to 635km.
Additionally, Hyundai Motor Company applied the world’s first Magneto Rheological fluid damper and control logic that reduces vehicle sway from side to side and front to back to the Universe Hydrogen Electric Bus, enhancing driving stability and ride comfort.

The Universe Hydrogen Electric Bus features a futuristic design representing the next-generation eco-friendly transportation means. The exterior emphasizes the identity of the hydrogen electric bus by connecting blue lines symbolizing eco-friendliness across the black grille at the front, and implements a clean image with a straight roof design integrated with the body.
The interior secures ample space through simple slim seats and improves seating comfort based on solid support and comfortable cushioning, providing a cozy ride experience.
Hyundai Motor Company offers the ‘Bluelink Fleet’ service, specialized for commercial vehicles, free of charge for five years. The Bluelink Fleet service provides information on vehicle status, including fuel efficiency and charging analysis, real-time driving conditions, and fault occurrence.
The Universe Hydrogen Electric Bus began development as a police bus in 2021, completed development as a general high-speed bus in 2022, and was deployed in pilot operation projects with the Ministry of Environment, Busan City, Ulsan City, and Gyeongnam Province. Furthermore, the Universe Hydrogen Electric Bus was selected as a target model for the hydrogen bus fuel cell replacement pilot project conducted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy upon its launch and is scheduled to be preferentially supplied to six local governments conducting the pilot project.
A Hyundai Motor Company official said, “In line with our plan to fully convert all commercial vehicle lineups to eco-friendly vehicles by 2028, we applied hydrogen fuel cell systems to all large commercial vehicle models through the launch of the Universe Hydrogen Electric Bus,” and added, “We will do our best to meet the strong demand from customers for eco-friendly commercial vehicles.”
