SonyD (CEO Oh Jung-geon) - New Korea Electronics & Telecommunications consortium announced on the 6th that it participated in the ‘2023 1st Smart Construction Technology Briefing’ hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Urban Infrastructure Headquarters and showcased the jointly developed ‘Safety Reconnaissance Robot Solution.’
This briefing was held by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to discover smart construction technologies and solutions capable of responding to national accident prevention and disaster occurrences. Embassies and military attach?s from various countries interested in national safety, accident prevention, and disaster response, including Poland, Italy, Bangladesh, Mexico, Myanmar, India, Peru, and Sierra Leone, participated.
At this briefing, the SonyD-New Korea Electronics & Telecommunications consortium jointly introduced the ‘Safety Reconnaissance Robot,’ developed as part of the business agreement (MOU) signed by the two companies in February for the ‘Development and Sales of Disaster Prevention and Risk Prevention Platform Using Autonomous Driving Robots.’ SonyD participated in the development of the safety reconnaissance robot based on the technological capabilities of its subsidiaries Defense Korea and SonyD Robotics.
The safety reconnaissance robot can prevent safety accidents in industrial sites and respond quickly in case of disaster occurrences. For example, it can block gas leaks in hazardous areas, remove obstacles, enter fire zones and extinguish fires, and move hazardous objects in dangerous areas such as nuclear power plants, other power plants, oil fields, and gas facilities. The robot can also be used for military purposes such as mine clearance and explosive detection.
The safety reconnaissance robot is a product that mounts SonyD Robotics’ AI and autonomous driving technology on the multipurpose large robot (PIAP IBIS) from the Polish state-owned company Łukasiewicz Industrial Automation Institute (PIAP), which Defense Korea exclusively distributes in Korea. The PIAP IBIS can be equipped with KCMVP (Korean Cryptographic Module Validation Program) and is compatible with additional equipment such as water cannons, shotguns, X-ray systems, explosive detectors, mine detectors, and CBRN devices, enabling it to operate in various environments and missions.
Defense Korea signed a technical agreement with PIAP in 2021 and has been responsible for the distribution and maintenance of domestic small explosive ordnance disposal robots (PIAP EOD). In 2021 and 2022, it signed contracts for repair and maintenance of navy-operated robots, a supply contract for PIAP GRYF robots with the National Police Agency in 2021, and a supply contract for PIAP FENIX (backpack type) with the National Police Agency in 2022, maintaining ongoing cooperation.
A SonyD official stated, "The SonyD-New Korea Electronics & Telecommunications consortium has formed an integrated task force (TF) team to develop and sell a disaster prevention and risk prevention platform using autonomous driving robots," adding, "We plan to further specify the platform so that potential customers in the industrial AI robot sector, governments, local governments, and companies can adopt and utilize it in actual projects."
Meanwhile, New Korea Electronics & Telecommunications is an integrated safety system specialist company supplying public safety platforms to the Seoul Metropolitan Government and local governments nationwide. It develops and supplies integrated control (intelligent CCTV/video surveillance systems), IP broadcasting systems, parking control, and IoT solutions. It currently supplies public safety platforms to the Seoul Metropolitan Government and local governments nationwide, including ‘Seoul Public Wi-Fi Integrated Maintenance,’ and ‘Smart Seoul Safety Net Service and Control System Maintenance Services.’ Last year, through the ‘Guro-type Smart Pole Construction Project,’ it contributed to Guro-gu winning the Grand Prize (Presidential Award) at the ‘Korea Local Government Management Competition.’
