Jeong Jong-bok, Gijang County Governor, Visits Ministry of Strategy and Finance for Timely Promotion of 'Urban Railway Jeonggwan Line'...

On the 5th, Busan's Gijang County visited the Ministry of Economy and Finance to expedite the long-awaited urban railway Jeonggwan Line project.

On this day, Gijang County Governor Jeong Jong-bok and Gijang County Council Chairman Park Woo-sik personally met with officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance to deliver a petition and a letter of request containing the earnest wishes of the Gijang residents.

They also actively proposed the selection of the urban railway Jeonggwan Line as a project subject to a preliminary feasibility study, expressing willingness to provide financial support if necessary for the project's advancement.

The first phase (Jeonggwan area) of the urban railway project (Nopo-Jeonggwan Line) will operate a tram over approximately 13 km, starting from Donghae Line Jwacheon Station, passing through Jeonggwan New Town, and ending at Wolpyeong Station. Fifteen ground-level stations will be installed, with a total project cost expected to be about 300 billion KRW.

After applying for the preliminary feasibility study in August last year and completing the investment review by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Economy and Finance is currently conducting the selection process for projects subject to the preliminary feasibility study.

Gijang County announced that the ‘Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan Metropolitan Railway Construction Project,’ a metropolitan railway line connected to the urban railway Jeonggwan Line, has been included in the national upper-level plan (the 4th National Railway Network Construction Plan).

Also, it was applied to the Ministry of Economy and Finance in February this year as a project subject to the preliminary feasibility study, securing the feasibility of constructing the Jeonggwan Line, and it is expected that the concurrent promotion of the urban railway and metropolitan railway projects will maximize the project effects.

Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “Gijang County is the largest nuclear power plant cluster area in the country, and the urban railway is essential as an emergency evacuation means for residents' lives and safety in case of disaster accidents.”

He added, “With the promotion of advanced national projects in the area and the creation of Osiria Tourist Complex, the largest in the country, securing transportation infrastructure is urgent, so the urban railway Jeonggwan Line must be constructed promptly.”
