Seogwipo Coast Guard Conducts Free Inspection of Powered Water Leisure Equipment

Seogwipo Coast Guard Station (Chief Yoon Tae-yeon) announced on the 5th that it will provide free inspection services for motorboats and power rubber boats, among other powered water leisure equipment, at ports in the Seogwipo area every Wednesday in April from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This inspection is being promoted to prevent engine failures and drifting accidents caused by poor maintenance during the spring season when water leisure activities increase.

The Coast Guard plans to offer free inspection services in cooperation with the Korea Maritime Safety Authority (KOMSA) and specialized repair companies.

In the past three years (2020?2022), drifting and engine failure accidents accounted for 71 out of 112 water leisure accidents in the jurisdiction, representing 63.3% of all incidents.

The main inspection items include checking for electrical and oil system leaks and shorts, along with providing education and consultation on maintenance methods and management tips for water leisure equipment.

Those who wish to apply for the free inspection service can make a reservation in advance with the Seogwipo Coast Guard Station or register on-site.

A Seogwipo Coast Guard official stated, “Through this free inspection service, we expect to raise safety awareness by making pre-departure checks a routine practice, thereby preventing accidents.”
