Jeon Seong-su, Seocho-gu Mayor, Communicates with Shindong Elementary Students to Find Solutions to Village Issues
Former Mayor Visits Local Elementary Students on the Afternoon of the 5th for On-site Communication of ‘Visiting Seocho Jeon Seong Suda’ to Create Safe School Routes
“Your brilliant ideas are like oxygen essential for Seocho-gu!”
On the afternoon of the 5th, Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, spent time communicating with 22 sixth-grade students at Shindong Elementary School in Jamwon-dong about village issues.
The meeting was arranged after Mayor Jeon reviewed a suggestion posted by an elementary school class on the ‘Requests to the Mayor’ (hereinafter ‘Guba’) bulletin board on the Seocho-gu website.
The students’ request was to create a safe school route near the school, away from the reconstruction construction site of nearby apartments. While studying the topic of ‘public issues,’ they discovered problems in their village on their own and requested Seocho-gu Office’s help to find solutions.
On the day, Mayor Jeon visited the class and exchanged opinions with the students on vivid, site-based safety measures. He also conducted multifaceted preliminary reviews with related departments to create a safe learning environment and sought practical solutions through immediate site visits.
Jeong OO (13, female), who first proposed the idea, said, “It is an honor that the ideas my friends and I came up with can be realized.” In response, Mayor Jeon said, “We will carefully consider your ideas and work together to make a positive impact on Seocho-gu.”
Based on the communication with the students, the district plans to prepare concrete measures going forward.
This visit was part of ‘Visiting Seocho Jeon Seong Suda,’ a program where the mayor directly visits the front lines every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month to hear residents’ vivid voices and reflect them in district administration.
‘Walking Dongdaemun’ Author and Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung Walks Dongdaemun with Residents
Communication Administration Visiting Vivid Sites for Safety Inspections
On the morning of the 5th, Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) visited Shindap Elementary School as the first site of the on-site mayor’s office ‘Walking Dongdaemun,’ where the mayor listens directly to residents’ inconveniences and concerns and contemplates solutions together.
“Please install traffic lights at the crosswalk near the elementary school,” “Please create a pedestrian path separated from the road on the side streets used by children going to and from school.” These were requests made by parents of Shindap Elementary School students to Mayor Lee during the visit.

The district plans to take measures to fulfill parents’ requests for safe school routes through cooperation with related organizations such as Dongdaemun Police Station and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.
This site visit was promoted to preemptively inspect risk factors on school routes and secure a safe walking environment for children due to an increase in the number of students following the move-in of apartments near Shindap Elementary School (Dongbu Cheonggwa, Hanyang Sujain Apartments, Cheongnyangni 3 District, etc.).
Through the operation of ‘On-site Mayor’s Office Walking Dongdaemun,’ the district plans to visit any place requiring communication with residents?such as school zones, university areas, parks, markets and shopping districts, development areas, and residents’ long-standing projects?to check residents’ safety and gather opinions on local issues, thereby activating communication with residents.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, who visited Shindap Elementary School as the first location of ‘On-site Mayor’s Office Walking Dongdaemun,’ said, “In 2023, we aim for zero child pedestrian accidents in school zones and will do our best to ensure child pedestrian safety so that parents can send their children to school with peace of mind. We will strengthen resident-centered on-site communication and create a pleasant, safe, and transparent Dongdaemun-gu that opens happiness through the operation of the ‘On-site Mayor’s Office’ to seek solutions to local problems.”
