Independent research firm Valuefinder evaluated on the 5th that DA Technology is expected to benefit from the expanded investment by LG Energy Solution.
Established in May 2000, DA Technology is a first-generation company in the secondary battery automation equipment sector that succeeded in domestic production of notching equipment. Secondary batteries for electric vehicles are largely classified into pouch type, prismatic type, and cylindrical type, and the equipment (assembly process, activation process, shipment) manufactured by DA Technology can be applied to all forms.
Researcher Lee Chungheon of Valuefinder stated, “It is known that automakers have a high interest in laser notching,” and analyzed, “The main reason for the increasing adoption rate of laser notching equipment is that automakers prefer laser notching equipment, which has advantages such as clean cutting.”
Valuefinder predicted that orders for DA Technology’s laser notching equipment will continue to increase. DA Technology is one of the few companies capable of supplying laser notching equipment for anode materials to LG Energy Solution. Both the factory built by Ultium Cells, a GM-LG Energy Solution joint venture, and the factory constructed in a consortium with Hyundai Motor have adopted laser equipment.
Additionally, DA Technology is the only equipment partner of LG Energy Solution that holds the Z-stacking patent. Z-stacking is a method of layering the cathode and anode inside the battery.
Researcher Lee said, “DA Technology announced orders worth approximately KRW 110.2 billion last year,” and added, “Due to LG Energy Solution’s investment, DA Technology’s target order backlog is estimated to be KRW 150 billion this year and KRW 200 billion next year.”
