Busan City will conduct the "Busan Port Maritime Accident Integrated Response Drill" on the afternoon of the 5th at 1 PM in the waters in front of the Busan Port North Port International Passenger Terminal, together with the Busan Maritime Police Agency and 10 related organizations.
Since 2015, the city has been conducting biannual response drills with related agencies such as the maritime police and fire departments to prepare for maritime accidents in the region, supporting budgets, equipment, and supplies for the drills.
In particular, through this year’s drill, the city plans to demonstrate excellent collaborative training capabilities with related agencies to ensure maritime safety in the region, showcasing Busan as a safe maritime city prepared to host the 2030 World Expo during the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) on-site inspection.

This drill is conducted under the assumption of a "passenger ship explosion accident," considering the increase in passenger ships using Busan Port, which will be reborn through the 2030 Busan World Expo bid and North Port redevelopment, aiming to establish an accident response posture and enhance on-site response capabilities in case of emergencies.
About 200 officials from the city, Busan Maritime Police Agency, and related organizations, along with around 10 vessels and rescue helicopters, will participate in the drill. The training will include ▲rescue of drowning victims following a passenger ship battery room explosion ▲fire suppression on a passenger ship ▲procedures for passengers falling into the sea from a passenger ship.
Kim Byung-gi, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau of Busan City, said, “As maritime tourism activities targeting Busan Port are expected to increase, passenger ships will become a marine tourism resource used by many domestic and international tourists in Busan.” He added, “Through this drill, we will establish a cooperative system among related agencies to thoroughly prepare for maritime accidents involving passenger ships, which are multi-use vessels, and do our best to demonstrate Busan’s capability to host the 2030 Busan World Expo as a safe maritime city.”
