NCSoft Obtains APEC-CBPR Certification for Personal Data Protection

NCSoft announced on the 5th that it has become the first company in the domestic gaming industry to obtain the ‘APEC-CBPR’ certification.

‘APEC-CBPR’ is the ‘Cross-Border Privacy Rules (CBPR)’ certification issued by the ‘Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).’ It is a global system developed by APEC to support the free and secure transfer of personal information among member countries. Nine countries, including Korea, the United States, Japan, and Singapore, participate in this system.

With the acquisition of the ‘APEC-CBPR’ certification, NCSoft can enable efficient global collaboration. When partnering with companies certified under ‘APEC-CBPR,’ personal information can be managed and operated without separate procedures such as verifying compliance with local laws.

Shin Jong-hoe, head of NCSoft’s Information Security Center, said, “We are pleased that NCSoft’s solid technical capabilities and efforts in personal information protection have been recognized through the APEC-CBPR certification,” adding, “We will continue research and development in information security to become a more trusted global company.”

‘APEC-CBPR’ certification is issued based on the ‘APEC Privacy 9 Principles,’ comprehensively evaluating ▲personal information management system establishment ▲personal information collection ▲use, provision, and consignment of personal information ▲rights of data subjects ▲integrity ▲protection measures, among others. Sixty-one global companies, including Apple, Cisco, IBM, and HP, have obtained the ‘APEC-CBPR’ certification.
