Hyundai Green Food Develops Diet Plans for Hypertension and Kidney Disease Patients

Medifood is a general food product manufactured as a meal replacement according to the standards designated by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), tailored to the nutritional requirements of specific diseases. It is produced and processed by adjusting the nutritional content to assist patients in managing their meals.

For example, the cancer patient diet newly launched in October last year saw sales increase by more than 140% last month compared to the first month of its release. Hyundai Green Food attributes this success to fully utilizing its experience in providing patient meals to Seoul Asan Medical Center and its manufacturing capabilities to introduce Medifood products using a variety of ingredients.

Currently, Hyundai Green Food sells a total of 58 types of Medifood, the largest number in Korea, including ▲diabetes patient meals (38 types), ▲cancer patient meals (18 types), and ▲kidney disease patient meals (2 types) through its official online mall, Greeting Mall.

In line with the expansion of the Medifood market, Hyundai Green Food plans to gradually expand its product lineup. The current 58 meal types will be increased to around 100 by next year. They are also developing a ‘hypertension diet,’ for which the MFDS announced standard manufacturing regulations at the end of last year. Additionally, they plan to start developing refrigerated products for kidney disease diets, which are currently only available in frozen form. Furthermore, in response to the growing health management trend including chronic disease patients, they plan to develop a ‘customized recommendation service’ that suggests Medifood diets to customers who want meal management.

A Hyundai Green Food official said, “Despite the recovery of dining-out demand due to the endemic, the repurchase rate of Medifood diets reaches 60%. Considering that the repurchase rate of general home meal replacements is 30-40%, this is an unexpectedly high figure.”
