Jung-gu, Promotion of Gutter Dredging in Preparation for Heavy Rainfall

Dredging of Stormwater Inlets in Jung-gu to be Completed by June

Priority Implementation in Traditional Markets, Tourist Zones, and Low-lying Areas with High Foot Traffic

Total of 15,715 Locations Including 4,730 Along Main Roads and 10,985 Along Side Streets

Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) will dredge all stormwater inlets in the district in preparation for the summer monsoon season.

Stormwater inlets are important sewage facilities that facilitate the smooth drainage of rainwater from road surfaces into stormwater pipes, helping to prevent flood damage.

So far, the district has been removing pollutants such as fallen leaves and cigarette butts that block drainage flow inside the stormwater inlets to maintain their proper function. Thanks to these efforts, the district was able to avoid major flood damage despite last year’s record-breaking heavy rains.

This year, priority will be given to areas with high foot traffic such as traditional markets and tourist zones, as well as low-lying flood-prone areas. Subsequently, dredging will be carried out sequentially along main roads and side streets, with plans to maintain all stormwater inlets in the district by June.

Additionally, to ensure smooth implementation, cooperation will be sought from local community centers to identify necessary areas first. Special attention will be paid to habitual cigarette butt dumping sites, sections with accumulated fallen leaves around stormwater inlets, and areas with complaints about sewage odors.

Through this dredging, it is expected not only to prevent flood damage but also to resolve issues such as odors, pests, and viruses caused by accumulated pollutants.

Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, “Dredging stormwater inlets is a basic and essential task to prepare for summer floods,” adding, “We will continue to do our best in advance to protect the lives and property of our residents.”

Since last year, the district has supported injury medical expenses through this insurance, and especially this year, the funeral expense support limit has been greatly increased from 1 million KRW to 20 million KRW. It also covers medical expenses for accidents involving personal mobility devices (PM) such as electric kickboards, whose users have recently surged, providing more practical help to residents who suffer unexpected damages.

Furthermore, the district continues to support Seongdong-gu residents’ bicycle insurance and flood and wind damage insurance, thoroughly protecting residents from various disasters and accidents.

Eunpyeong-gu Implements ‘Eunpyeong Resident Welfare History System’ to Prevent Duplicate Support

Systematic Management Through History Tracking Amid Diversification of Welfare Resources and Services

Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it is implementing the ‘Eunpyeong Resident Welfare History System’ in response to the diversification of welfare resources and services.

The ‘Eunpyeong Resident Welfare History System’ is a systematic management method to prevent duplication of resource and service linkage for the same individual and to ensure balanced distribution without concentration.

History management proceeds according to a phased plan. Phase 1 involves internal management of welfare recipients’ resource and service provision histories, including managing recipient characteristics, monitoring frequency, and support performance.

Phase 2 is the linked management stage between the next-generation Happiness Connection system for public officials and the Hope Connection system for welfare institution workers. The district plans to use the next-generation system for systematic resource allocation management and will actively request the Ministry of Health and Welfare to improve system functions as needed to enhance system utilization.

Finally, Phase 3 involves continuous guidance and promotion to private and religious organizations, sharing and selecting support recipients to minimize duplicate support.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “When supporting recipients by welfare project, concentration among recipients can occur,” adding, “We will continue to improve related systems to understand support details by recipient, prevent unnecessary duplicate support, and ensure help reaches those who truly need it.”
