On the 3rd, Ha Young-je, a member of the National Assembly from the People Power Party who is accused of violating the Political Funds Act, appeared at the Changwon District Court in Gyeongnam for a warrant hearing.
Ha is accused of receiving 70 million won from a preliminary candidate for the Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly election as a reward for helping with the nomination ahead of the nationwide local elections in June last year, and a total of 57.5 million won from local government heads and aides under the pretext of operating expenses for the regional office.
The Changwon District Court plans to hold the warrant hearing from 2 p.m. that day and decide whether to detain Ha.
Before entering the courtroom, Ha said, "I will explain the details of the charges at the summary trial court."
