OpenAI CEO Who Created ChatGPT to Visit Seoul... Likely to Discuss AI Regulation

Announcing Visits to 17 Countries... "Will Travel for Dialogue"

OpenAI CEO Who Created ChatGPT to Visit Seoul... Likely to Discuss AI Regulation

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer of 'ChatGPT,' is expected to visit South Korea as early as next month.

On the 30th of last month (local time), Altman tweeted, "I will be traveling in May and June to talk with OpenAI users and developers," adding, "I hope to meet with policymakers to discuss."

Altman announced plans to visit a total of 17 countries, including South Korea, the United States (Washington DC), the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Japan, Australia, and Tel Aviv. China was not included in the itinerary.

He explained, "What is needed for a good future of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is an effective global regulatory framework that includes technical capability and democratic governance." This visit to 17 countries is expected to involve discussions with officials on AI regulation issues.

Earlier, on the 20th of last month, Altman expressed concerns about the side effects of AI technology in an interview with the US ABC network. He said, "I am afraid of the negative impacts AI technology could have on the workforce, elections, and the spread of misinformation," adding, "We need to be cautious, and people should have some fear regarding AI technology."

Since the release of the conversational AI ChatGPT in November last year, voices expressing concern about the dangers of AI have been growing louder.

Celebrities including Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, have argued that advanced AI could pose a significant risk to humanity and called for a six-month halt to AI development. The public petition launched last month by the US nonprofit 'Future of Life Institute (FLI)' to "pause the development of the most advanced AI systems" was supported by Musk, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, and Yuval Harari, author of the global bestseller 'Sapiens.'

Musk, who co-founded OpenAI, has previously warned that "one of the great risks to the future of civilization is AI" and has called for regulation of AI.
