German sports car brand Porsche announced that it will unveil the new Cayenne SUV for the first time in the world at the Shanghai Motor Show in China, starting on the 18th (local time).
The interior has changed significantly. The company calls the display and personalized operation method the 'Porsche Driver Experience,' which is the most noticeable feature of the new car. They aimed to provide a new and driving-focused experience by grouping the main control functions near the steering wheel.
The cockpit around the driver is borrowed from the electric sports car Taycan. It is the first time this has been applied to an internal combustion engine model in the new Cayenne. Features include a curved, independent digital instrument cluster and a redesigned center console. The automatic gear selector is located on the right side of the steering wheel.
The instrument cluster is an independent 12.6-inch curved display, and depending on the equipment level, up to seven screens can be selected. The front passenger seat has also been renewed. The passenger display is available as an optional feature. The integrated passenger display is 10.9 inches and can operate navigation or media services on behalf of the driver. A special film that cannot be seen from the driver's seat is applied so that the display does not interfere with driving even when video is shown.
The multifunction sports steering wheel is borrowed from the 911. The function to select driving modes from the steering wheel is included as standard. A new toggle button allows selection of dashboard functions and designs, and the optional head-up display can also be operated from the steering wheel.
Connectivity features have also been improved. The smartphone holder supports wireless charging and cooling. Smartphones can be connected to the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) via the front port. Integrated applications such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Spotify, and Apple Music also operate. With the new in-car video feature, content provided by the streaming platform ScreenhitTV can be watched directly.
The Cayenne is a mid-to-large SUV and is the best-selling model among all Porsche brand vehicles. Porsche sold about 310,000 units worldwide last year, with over 95,000 units of the Cayenne alone. In South Korea, 4,102 units were sold last year, accounting for nearly half of Porsche's total sales.
