Kim Ki-hyun "Japan-Korea Summit National Audit? First Clarify Moon Jae-in-Kim Jong-un Meeting"

"Not Even Worth Negotiating," Dismissed
Examples Include THAAD and US Beef Import Agitation

Kim Ki-hyun, the leader of the People Power Party, responded to the Democratic Party of Korea's demand for a national investigation into the Japan-South Korea summit by saying, "Before anything else, we need to clarify what happened between former President Moon Jae-in and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un during the inter-Korean summit."

On the afternoon of the 2nd, Kim visited Jeonju to support the campaign for the April 5th Jeonju-eul parliamentary by-election and, when asked by reporters about the national investigation into the Japan-South Korea summit, he stated, "It is not even a subject for negotiation."

Kim emphasized, "Not only does it violate international conventions, but the Democratic Party, which keeps inciting over something impossible, is a party that neglects people's livelihoods and only engages in political strife."

Kim also criticized, "They recklessly spread false claims about the Japan-South Korea summit that never happened, and if those claims are not true, they demand clarification in an absurd manner," adding, "I don't understand what they hope to gain by inciting in this way."

He continued, "The Democratic Party, which is bringing up the Dokdo issue that was never even mentioned and thereby creating a dispute, is committing the mistake of turning Dokdo into an international dispute area," and pointed out, "This is a serious anti-national act that harms national interests."

Kim further remarked, "Looking at the Democratic Party's current behavior, it reminds me of when they lied that people would die from electromagnetic waves if the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system was deployed, or when they incited fears that importing American beef would cause mad cow disease with holes in the brain."

The Democratic Party submitted a request for a national investigation on March 29 regarding the Japan-South Korea summit between President Yoon Suk-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The scope of the investigation includes whether Fukushima seafood import measures were discussed, whether Dokdo and comfort women issues were mentioned, and the constitutionality and legality of the 'third-party compensation plan' for forced labor.
