Hacker: "If No Contact by the 5th, All Leaked Information Will Be Released"
A hacker claiming to have obtained personal information of 55 million Thais, accounting for 80% of the population, has emerged, prompting authorities to launch an investigation.
According to the Bangkok Post on the 1st, a hacker named '9Near' posted on the hacker community website Breach Forums, which trades leaked information, that they have secured personal data of 55 million Thais, including names, addresses, dates of birth, and phone numbers.
The hacker posted on the website '9Near.org' stating, "If you believe your organization’s information has been leaked, contact me by 4 PM on April 5th, or I will reveal the source, hacking methods, and disclose all leaked information."
To prove the acquisition of personal information, the hacker also sent threatening text messages to several news anchors. Broadcaster Sorayut Sutasanachinda posted on social networking services (SNS) that he received messages containing his personal information such as address and phone number.
Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, said, "The ID card information managed by the Ministry of Interior has not been leaked," and added, "The overseas website '9Near.org' has been blocked."
He criticized the site for violating personal information rights, threatening national security, and causing confusion, explaining that relevant agencies are coordinating to respond.
If the hacker’s claim of obtaining personal information of 55 million Thais is true, it means they have acquired data on approximately 78.57% of Thailand’s population of 70 million.
