Female Golf Amateur No.1 Rose Jang Wins Prestigious ANWA Championship

Korean-American Jenny Bae Outplays in Extended Duel
Secures LPGA Tour Major Entry Ticket

Amateur world No. 1 Rose Zhang (USA) claimed the top spot after a playoff battle at the Augusta National Women's Amateur, the most prestigious women's amateur golf tournament.

On the final third round held on the 2nd at Augusta National Golf Club (par 72) in Augusta, Georgia, USA, Zhang shot a 4-over-par 76 with 2 birdies, 4 bogeys, and 1 double bogey, finishing with a total score of 9-under-par 207. She entered a playoff with Jenny Bae (USA) and secured the victory by making par on the second playoff hole, the 10th hole (par 4). Zhang is Chinese-American, and Bae is Korean-American.

With this victory, Zhang earned entry into major LPGA Tour events such as the U.S. Women's Open and the Chevron Championship. Born in 2003, she became the world No. 1 female amateur golfer in September 2020. Additionally, she won the Mark H. McCormack Medal, awarded by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A) to the top amateur, for three consecutive years from 2020 through last year.

Currently attending Stanford University, she was the individual and team champion at the NCAA last year and also received the Annika Award, given to the best female collegiate golfer.

National team member Lim Ji-yu (18) tied for 5th place with a 2-under-par 214, achieving the best result for a Korean player since the tournament's inception in 2019. The previous best finish was a tie for 8th by Bang Shin-sil (19) last year.
