Daegu City to Invest 25.8 Billion Won in Building AI-Based Simulation Center

Daegu City has been selected for the "Establishment and Operation of Process Innovation Simulation Center" project announced by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Korea Industrial Complex Corporation) targeting 12 smart green industrial complexes nationwide.

With this project selection, Daegu City will invest 25.8 billion KRW over three years until 2025 to promote the process innovation simulation establishment and operation project in collaboration with the project lead institution, Kyungpook National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation (Advanced Information and Communication Convergence Industry Technology Institute).

Through this project, a project execution base center will be established within the Daegu Seongseo Industrial Complex, and equipment such as simulation software and high-performance computers will be built to support ICT convergence product design, analysis, virtual verification, and prototype production services in regionally specialized industrial fields such as future cars, robots, and intelligent machinery. It will also promote technology dissemination and expansion through the training of specialized personnel.

Local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies will be able to use the Daegu Process Innovation Simulation Center to virtually predict and verify performance through various simulations of the entire process including product development, manufacturing, and performance verification before making products.

Through this, companies can shorten product development time and reduce costs by utilizing the center's support without having to purchase expensive software individually or outsource to private firms.

Furthermore, the Daegu Process Innovation Simulation Center plans to continuously support automated design and simulation technology by constructing big data based on design and analysis data and applying artificial intelligence (AI) technology to provide manufacturing companies with product development, optimal manufacturing processes, and optimal development plans.

Seo Kyung-hyun, Director of the Future ICT Bureau, said, "This project will help improve the productivity and quality of products of local manufacturing companies and serve as an opportunity for continuous innovation." He added, "We will strive to strengthen competitiveness through the digital transformation of local manufacturing companies and revitalize industrial complexes, and further foster the ABB industry, one of Daegu City's future strategic industries."
