U.S. President Joe Biden is expected not to attend the coronation of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, scheduled for next month.
On the 31st of last month (local time), the British daily newspaper The Telegraph reported, citing multiple sources, that President Biden is expected to send a delegation instead of attending King Charles III's coronation in person, which will be held at Westminster Abbey in London on the 6th of next month.
Despite concerns that this could be seen as a diplomatic slight, President Biden is likely to dispatch a high-level delegation to the coronation. It is also reported that First Lady Jill Biden is being considered as a possible representative to attend.
According to The Telegraph, Karen Pierce, the British Ambassador to the U.S., and Buckingham Palace aides have had cordial and diplomatic discussions with the White House regarding the coronation, but were told that President Biden already has prior commitments.
Meanwhile, President Biden has already faced criticism for bypassing King Charles III, as his itinerary for the visit to Northern Ireland this month did not include plans to meet with the king.
