Gaya High Senior Went to University Campus to Give Scholarship to Alumni Junior

Ara Scholarship Foundation Donates 1 Million Won Each to 3 New Students at Korea Maritime University

Why did high school alumni seniors visit a university campus instead of their alma mater?

High school alumni seniors, who formed a mentoring group and scholarship association to become genuine mentors to their juniors, visited the campus of juniors who became university students this year and all sent ‘finger hearts’ together.

It was an occasion where members of the Gaya High School alumni mentoring group ‘Mentors’ and the alumni scholarship association president generously awarded scholarships to freshmen juniors.

Busan Gaya High School is a high school where graduates are called mentors. It is wrong to view them as typical high school alumni seniors who only enforce discipline and stand with their hands behind their backs.

The Gaya alumni mentoring group is led by former National Police Agency Commissioner Kim Chang-ryong, and mentor Jeong Jeong-sik (29th class) serves as the president of the Ara Scholarship Association, which was established and operated by the Gaya High School alumni association at Korea Maritime and Ocean University.

On March 23rd, at the scholarship award ceremony, three freshmen who graduated from the 69th class of Gaya High School and entered Korea Maritime and Ocean University received scholarship certificates and a total of 3 million KRW in scholarships.

Gaya High Senior Went to University Campus to Give Scholarship to Alumni Junior On March 23, at Korea Maritime University, the president and members of the Ara Scholarship Association, an alumni scholarship group of Gayago, are presenting scholarship certificates to juniors who have become new university students while showing finger hearts.

At the ceremony held at the university headquarters that day, Scholarship Association President Jeong Jeong-sik (Institutional Studies, 39th class) and alumni Son Jae-bong (Navigation, 35th class) and Jeon Tae-sung (Applied Mathematics) attended. The three students receiving the scholarship certificates were also present.

The scholarship association explained that they selected three juniors with good character and excellent academic performance to present the scholarship certificates. Each received an encouraging gift of 1 million KRW from senior mentors.

Kim Hong-seung, Director of Student Affairs at Korea Maritime and Ocean University, said, “We deeply appreciate the Ara Scholarship Association for supporting the development of the alma mater and maintaining strong bonds among alumni,” and added, “We hope the students who received the benefits will cherish the seniors’ intentions.”

Besides this event, the Ara Scholarship Association plans to provide various support to current students who graduated from Gaya High School. The seniors have decided to put down their ‘hands behind their backs’ for the development of their alma mater and the nurturing of future generations.
