Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church spoke out against Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, who criticized Kim Jae-won, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party.
On the 29th of last month, Pastor Jeon criticized Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, who had criticized Supreme Council member Kim, during a special live broadcast on the YouTube channel 'Neo Ara TV,' using the expression "this XX" and saying, "After we revived Gwanghwamun, they are attacking us."
He said, "When the Supreme Council member election was held, Kim Jae-won was in fourth place, barely making it. So he came to me and said, 'Please let me give a speech at Gwanghwamun on March 1st.' When he came to give the speech, he whispered to me, 'This is my first time at the Gwanghwamun movement, and I was moved to see that the subject saving the Republic of Korea is here,'" he said.
He then asked back, "The following week, he even came to our church and talked with me. What was wrong with what I said? People of the nation, what was wrong?"
Earlier, on the 25th of last month (local time), Supreme Council member Kim caused controversy by saying at a lecture hosted by a conservative organization in the United States, "Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon has unified the entire right-wing camp." On the 12th, he also attended a service at Sarang Jeil Church where Pastor Jeon preaches and stated opposition to including the spirit of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement in the constitution, for which he apologized two days later. Subsequently, Mayor Hong strongly criticized Kim's remarks, demanding his expulsion.

In response, Pastor Jeon harshly criticized Mayor Hong on 'Neo Ara TV.'
He shouted at Mayor Hong, "You also came to Gwanghwamun and gave a speech. Do I have to say such rude things, you XX? You have spent your whole life in politics making a living, but our Gwanghwamun movement is not politics; it is a matter of survival."
He continued, "Hong Joon-pyo, let's admit what needs to be admitted. Honestly, if we hadn’t done the Gwanghwamun movement, would there have been a regime change? No, there wouldn’t have been. And now you are attacking Gwanghwamun."
Pastor Jeon also told those criticizing the Gwanghwamun rally participants, "Supreme Council members or whatever, none of that matters. Don’t give them nominations in the April 10 election next year. Cut them all off."
He added, "The country was ruined, but Gwanghwamun saved it, and now you are attacking Gwanghwamun. If you do this, you are spies sent down from North Korea."
