Three men in their 30s, who were under investigation for cryptocurrency-related offenses, kidnapped and murdered a woman at an apartment in Gangnam.
The Seoul Suseo Police Station announced on the 31st that they have apprehended three suspects who kidnapped a woman by vehicle in front of an apartment in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, and are currently investigating the case.
The victim's body was found near Daecheong Dam in Daejeon.
According to the police, all in their 30s, the suspects are accused of kidnapping the woman in front of the apartment at around 11:48 PM on the 29th, murdering her near Daejeon, and abandoning the body.
The police received a witness report stating that "a woman was forcibly put into a car and kidnapped," and identified suspects A (30) and B (36) through analysis of nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
It was investigated that they abandoned the vehicle used for the kidnapping at an undisclosed location in Daejeon the next morning, rented a car, and moved to Cheongju, Chungbuk. A small amount of bloodstains and a weapon presumed to have been used in the crime were found in the abandoned vehicle. After abandoning the rental car in Cheongju as well, they fled to Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province by taxi at around 9:30 AM on the 30th.
Two days after the incident, the police arrested A and B, who directly kidnapped the woman, in the Seongnam area, and also apprehended another man in his 30s in Nonhyeon-dong, Seoul, on charges of conspiring with them.
The police arrested all three suspects that day and, based on their statements that they abandoned the victim near Daecheong Dam in Daejeon, dispatched search personnel to the location and confirmed the victim's body.
A police official stated, "We confirmed that all the suspects were involved in cryptocurrency-related cases and were under police investigation," and added, "We will continue to investigate the circumstances, motives, and whether there were accomplices in the crime based on the suspects' statements."
