Operation of Play-Based Physical Activity Program for School-Age Children
Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) is attracting attention by operating an 'Obesity Escape Program' to improve the steadily increasing obesity rate among school-age children and to promote the formation of healthy lifestyle habits.
The county health center is running a play-based program called 'Exciting Exercise Journey to Escape Obesity,' which is excellent for weight loss, targeting 21 school-age children during school recess from March 22 to June 30, for 90 days.
Childhood obesity poses a risk of leading to adult obesity, so the health center visits schools, the main living environment of children, to operate physical activity programs three times a week for children in grades 1 to 4, helping them form healthy lifestyle habits and manage their weight.
The main contents of the program include ▲ lowering obesity rates ▲ increasing physical activity practice rates ▲ reducing sodium intake ▲ pre- and post-obesity and body composition tests ▲ physical activities ▲ nutrition education ▲ smoking cessation and alcohol moderation education, along with awareness improvement promotions.
The health center plans to provide success prizes to top participants to motivate and increase program participation for obesity rate improvement.
A county official said, "We hope this program helps children relieve stress from their studies and aids in proper weight management and the formation of healthy lifestyle habits."
