Traffic Restriction Inevitable Due to Slope Collapse and Falling Rocks

Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it is restricting traffic on a section of County Road No. 12, Nogodan Ilju Road (Siamjae ~ Seongsamjae).

On March 11, the traffic restriction on this road section was fully lifted due to recent improvements in weather conditions and increased spring tourism demand, but traffic has been restricted again since March 15, 2023, due to slope collapse and falling rocks.

Traffic restriction is inevitable due to a large-scale rockfall on the road section, which is expected to cause inconvenience to tourists visiting Jirisan during the spring season.

Fortunately, there have been no vehicle or human casualties, but due to the risk of additional collapse, all vehicles and pedestrians are prohibited from passing through this section. Given the road’s characteristics of being located at a high altitude and the difficulty in weather forecasting, users are strongly advised to exercise caution.

A Gurye-gun official stated, “We will conduct frequent inspections until the thawing period in May to respond promptly to any emergencies, and in case of any incidents, we will cooperate with related organizations to ensure the safety of Nogodan Ilju Road.”
