Incheon City will expand its electric vehicle charging facilities by 905 units this year, investing 16.1 billion KRW in national funds and 17.2 billion KRW in private capital.
On the 31st, the city announced that it secured 16.1 billion KRW in national funds after seven projects were selected in the Ministry of Environment's '2023 Regional Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition Brand Project,' which aims to expand convenience facilities for electric vehicles and two-wheelers.
The seven projects include five metropolitan projects (Incheon City), one basic project (Namdong-gu), and one private project (charging operators). The city plans to invest a total of 33.3 billion KRW, including 17.2 billion KRW in private investment, to expand electric vehicle charging facilities.
The charging facilities will be distributed throughout the city, including Ganghwa and Ongjin counties, as well as the old downtown and new urban areas, with 706 rapid chargers, 178 slow chargers, and 21 chargers for electric two-wheelers to be installed.
The city plans to finalize the installation locations after completing demand surveys and on-site investigations for candidate sites by the 7th of next month.
In Incheon, 11,900 electric vehicles were distributed last year alone, and currently, 22,267 vehicles are registered. In contrast, only 5,424 charging facilities have been installed, which is relatively insufficient compared to the spread of electric vehicles.
An official from Incheon City stated, "With the securing of national funds and private investment, the expansion of electric vehicle charging facilities is expected to quickly resolve charging blind spots. We will continue to steadily expand convenience facilities for charging electric vehicles and two-wheelers."
