Gyeonggi Province's Suwon City and Jeollabuk-do have agreed to continuously cooperate for the formation of a 'related population' and mutual development.
Suwon City announced that on the 31st, it signed a 'Mutual Development Business Agreement for the Formation of Suwon-Jeonbuk Related Population' with Jeollabuk-do at the city hall's medium conference room.
The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Jae-jun, Mayor of Suwon, and Kim Kwan-young, Governor of Jeonbuk, among others.
The related population refers to people who do not migrate or settle in a specific area but consistently visit the region and engage in various ways to build relationships and exchanges with the area.
According to the agreement, the two local governments will cooperate in five areas: ▲ Establishing and promoting a hometown love donation system cooperation model ▲ Promoting and participating in the 2023 Saemangeum World Jamboree ▲ Communication and exchange with veterans' organizations ▲ Supplying and expanding Jeonbuk's excellent agricultural and specialty products to Suwon City's local food direct stores ▲ Strengthening collaboration networks between public art museums.
The two local governments will use various promotional means such as social networking services (SNS) and websites to promote the hometown love donation system and operate promotional booths introducing return gifts during large-scale festivals.
Mayor Lee Jae-jun donated 'hometown love donations' to municipalities at risk of extinction, including Jeollabuk-do, using the 'Hometown Love e-Um System' on January 11.
Suwon City will promote the '2023 Saemangeum World Jamboree,' held from August 1 to 12, 2023, at the Saemangeum Jamboree site, and encourage Suwon citizens to participate in the jamboree.
They will also promote a pilgrimage project to war sites for veterans' organizations in Jeonbuk and Suwon, and expand the supply of Jeonbuk's agricultural and specialty products such as paprika, Jeonju bibimbap ingredients, fish sauce, and Imsil cheese to Suwon's local food direct stores. Suwon Museum of Art and Jeonbuk Provincial Museum of Art will strengthen collaboration by holding exchange exhibitions of their collections.
Governor Kim Kwan-young of Jeonbuk said, "We will learn a lot by cooperating with Suwon Special City in various fields," and added, "I hope today's agreement will be an opportunity for the two local governments to continuously cooperate and exchange widely."
After the signing ceremony, Governor Kim gave a lecture titled 'If You Challenge, You Succeed' at Suwon City's expanded executive meeting in April.
