Signing Ceremony of Business Agreement at UNIST University Headquarters on the 31st
Promoting Industry-Academia Cooperation in All Fields Including R&D and Consulting Advisory
UNIST and Korea Zinc Onsan Smelter have joined hands for mutual cooperation. Through this agreement, both institutions aim to enhance synergy in research capabilities and contribute to their joint development.
The agreement also includes cooperation plans such as R&D consulting and advisory services, joint use of research facilities and equipment, expansion of technology exchange, and customized professional talent development.
UNIST and Korea Zinc have carried out various collaborative projects so far. Several joint industry-academia projects have been promoted under the supervision of the UNIST Industry-Academia Cooperation Group.
Additionally, through the Coop program, UNIST students were dispatched to participate in long-term internships lasting over six months.
In 2021, they signed an MOU for joint research in the secondary battery and new materials fields. This business agreement was pursued to promote industry-academia cooperation across all fields of both institutions, including ▲ R&D and consulting advisory ▲ discovery of joint research projects ▲ customized professional talent development and in-service training.
In particular, regarding the carbon neutrality field, the two institutions plan to jointly select and carry out research projects such as the development of a carbon dioxide capture and utilization process design package and the development and demonstration of a co-firing burner model.
Lee Yong-hoon, President of UNIST, said, “Through this MOU, UNIST’s carbon neutrality R&D capabilities and Korea Zinc’s carbon neutrality industrial capabilities have combined to lead the industrialization of carbon neutrality,” adding, “UNIST will continue to work hard with Korea Zinc so that Ulsan can develop into a leading city for carbon neutrality.”
Lee Jun-yong, Director of Korea Zinc Onsan Smelter, said, “I was amazed at UNIST’s rapid growth and am very pleased to collaborate with a world-class science and technology institute and excellent researchers,” adding, “We will reciprocate more to regional and national industrial development through mutual cooperation with UNIST in relation to the projects Korea Zinc is undertaking.”
Attendees at the event included Lee Yong-hoon, President of UNIST; Lee Jun-yong, Director of Korea Zinc Onsan Smelter; Kim Seung-hyun, Director of Korea Zinc Technology Research Institute; Park Sung-woong, Head of Management Support Headquarters; Kim Sung-yeop, Dean of UNIST College of Engineering; and Lim Han-kwon, Director of UNIST Carbon Neutral Demonstration Research Center.
