Next Month, BIE Inspection Team Visits Korea for International Expo

With the upcoming visit of the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) inspection team next month, major domestic companies such as Samsung and LG are actively participating in activities to boost enthusiasm for hosting the ‘2030 Busan World Expo (Busan Expo).’ From March 30 to April 3, these leading companies have set up promotional booths at Gwanghwamun Square for the ‘Shining at Gwanghwamun’ event, which prays for the successful bid of the ‘2030 Busan World Expo,’ showcasing their products and technologies.

They present innovative products that have transformed everyday life in Korea over the past 76 years through a time-travel video, including Lucky Cream by Rakhee Chemical Industry (now LG Household & Health Care), Korea’s first domestically produced cosmetic; Geumseong A-501 by Geumseongsa (now LG Electronics), Korea’s first radio; LG Uplus’s 5G technology; LG Electronics’ 55-inch OLED TV (the world’s first release); and LG Energy Solution’s vehicle batteries. At the end of the video, a 3D image of the ‘2030 Busan World Expo’ venue is created, allowing visitors to the exhibition hall to directly experience the future Busan hosting the World Expo.

LG is also systematically preparing promotional activities to coincide with the BIE inspection team’s visit. Starting from the 1st of next month, a welcome message praying for the successful bid of the ‘2030 Busan World Expo’ will be broadcast on digital signage at Incheon International Airport, where the inspection team will arrive. Additionally, large electronic billboards at Seoul Station, Busan Station, and Gimhae International Airport, which the inspection team will use, will display advertisements supporting the bid for the ‘2030 Busan Expo.’ LG HelloVision will broadcast messages of support from Korean citizens wishing for the successful bid of the ‘2030 World Expo’ in Busan on TV channels available in the hotel rooms where the inspection team will stay in Busan.

Samsung Electronics operates the Galaxy Studio, allowing visitors to enjoy the latest smartphone technology with the Galaxy S23 while experiencing the meaning of the Expo.

Visitors can ▲take clear photos using the ultra-high-definition camera and Nightography feature of the Galaxy S23 series at a photo zone designed with neon signs of Busan’s night streets, ▲enjoy instant photo shoots with various moods at the Galaxy S23 photo booth, and ▲experience excellent gaming performance from casual to high-spec games.

Moreover, through the sustainability exhibition zone sharing the eco-friendly materials applied to the Galaxy S23 series and Galaxy’s sustainability philosophy, visitors can reflect once again on the Expo’s subtitle keywords: climate, environment, and technology. Since July last year, Samsung Electronics has been running promotional advertisements supporting the Expo bid at Samsung stores nationwide, including Busan, and plans to actively promote the bid during the inspection period using outdoor advertisements and displays inside and outside stores.

SK Innovation has set up a booth consisting of the ‘Clean Mobility’ zone showcasing carbon reduction innovation technologies, the ‘Together in Action’ zone where visitors can participate in a roulette game, and the ‘Photo Booth’ zone for commemorative photo shoots. Especially, the Together in Action and Photo Booth zones are spaces linked to SNS events where visitors can support the bid for the Busan Expo.

Hyundai Motor Group has prepared an exhibition space in Gwanghwamun featuring the electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) EV9. A promotional video introducing Busan’s determination and capabilities to host the Expo in 15 BIE member country languages is also being screened. During the World Expo inspection team’s visit to Busan, transportation support will be provided. From the 2nd of next month, for the 5 nights and 6 days visit, a total of 12 vehicles will be provided, including eight Genesis G80 electric cars and four Universes (limousine buses, etc.), so the inspection team can verify the competitiveness of Korea’s eco-friendly mobility industry.
