April 4 Residents Parade and Air Force ‘Black Eagles’ Celebration Flight Kick Off the Festival
Busking, Radio Public Broadcast, Seoul Metropolitan Police Mounted Unit and More Offer Diverse Attractions
Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that starting April 4 with a residents parade and a congratulatory flight by the Republic of Korea Air Force’s special flight team ‘Black Eagles,’ the 17th Yeongdeungpo Yeouido Spring Flower Festival will begin its six-day grand journey along Yeouiseo-ro Cherry Blossom Road (from the south end of Seogang Bridge to the entrance of Yeoui 2 Bridge, 1.7 km) and at the National Assembly Soccer Field in the Han River Park beneath Yeouiseo-ro.
This year, under the theme ‘Spring Again,’ the district will hold an eco-friendly spring flower festival for the first time in four years, offering a variety of cultural events to present a vibrant spring to its citizens.
First, to reflect on the precious daily lives temporarily forgotten due to COVID-19, on April 4 at 11 a.m., about 100 residents from various sectors including volunteer firefighters, senior art groups, literacy school students for the elderly, volunteers, and clubs, along with the mascot ‘Yeongrong-i,’ will start a parade walking along the entrance of Yeouiseo-ro Cherry Blossom Road. The Capital Defense Command Military Band will add excitement to the parade, welcoming the return of spring together with the citizens.
Also, at 2:30 p.m. on the 4th, to celebrate the full opening of the spring flower festival, the Republic of Korea Air Force’s special flight team ‘Black Eagles’ will perform a spectacular aerobatic flight for about 10 minutes over Yeouido, where the festival is held.
This year, buskers on the cherry blossom road were separately recruited, and selected skilled teams who passed fierce competition will perform busking every day from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the festival period.
At the main stage located at the National Assembly Riverside Soccer Field, various performances such as world music, book concerts, and jazz will be held daily at 7 p.m. On April 5 at 7 p.m., KBS Radio’s ‘Raise the Volume with Heize’ will hold a public broadcast, and on April 6 at 2:30 p.m., the Seoul Metropolitan Police Mounted Unit will visit citizens to provide rich entertainment.
Along the cherry blossom road, visitors can enjoy ▲‘Hanji Artwork’ featuring beautiful traditional Korean paper lanterns ▲‘Book Cart’ where books recommended by librarians from Yeongdeungpo-gu Library and National Assembly Library can be browsed ▲and ‘Green Zone,’ a resting area where spring visitors can relax comfortably.
At night, from sunset until 10 p.m., landscape lighting will illuminate the cherry blossoms beautifully, enhancing the charm of the spring flowers.
In particular, to raise awareness of the global environmental crisis caused by climate change such as early cherry blossom blooming, the district will operate an eco-friendly ‘zero waste festival’ this year. All food at the food market will be served in reusable containers. Citizens can freely eat in the grass plaza located in the center of the event site and then return the reusable containers at the return booths. Citizens who bring their own reusable containers such as tumblers will receive a 500 KRW discount.
Near the main spring flower festival venue, a family and transportation-vulnerable support center will lend strollers, baby wagons, and wheelchairs, and operate a baby rest area to provide convenience facilities for family visitors.
Additionally, to allow citizens visiting the spring flower festival to enjoy various benefits, the ‘Yeongdeungpo Spring Flower Sale Festa’ will run throughout April, offering discounts at local restaurants, cafes, hotels, and more. It is open to everyone, and detailed discount information and participating locations can be found on the ‘Yeongdeungpo Tourism Sale Festa’ website.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “For the first full-scale spring flower festival in four years, we have prepared a diverse event including thorough safety management and invited special guests such as the Black Eagles, military band, and police mounted unit. We especially ask for citizens’ understanding regarding noise caused by the celebratory flight and recommend using public transportation as much as possible to prevent congestion in the Yeouido area.”
