Geochang-gun Holds Kickoff Meeting for 'Rural-Type Geochang Memory School Construction'

Discussion on the Basic Concept and Funding Strategies for Gieok School

Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 31st that it held a kickoff meeting for a feasibility study and basic plan establishment research project to promote the construction of the "Rural-type Geochang Memory School," which can provide dementia prevention and management, at the county office situation room in response to the annually increasing dementia prevalence.

The meeting was attended by County Governor Gu In-mo, Vice Chairman of the County Council Park Su-ja, Chairman of the Industry and Construction Committee Shin Jae-hwa, Nam Sang-myeon Chief, Daehyeon Village Chief, and heads of related departments to discuss the basic concept of the Memory School (tentative name), which can provide services from dementia prevention to management and care support, as well as funding securing plans.

Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam is discussing the basic plan and funding strategies for the rural-type Geochang Memory School.

The "Memory School Construction" utilizing a closed school is a campaign pledge of the 8th civilian governor term, aiming to create the best nationwide facility unique to Geochang-gun, where dementia prevention and cognitive enhancement programs are operated in a familiar environment where residents have lived, and professional services are available for dementia patients and their families.

Governor Gu said, "Dementia is not a problem limited to individuals or their families but an issue that our entire local community must consider and solve together," adding, "We will establish a facility where all residents can experience customized services from dementia prevention to patient management."

Meanwhile, Geochang-gun plans to carry out this research project until August, analyzing and diagnosing the prevalence of dementia in Geochang-gun, and will accelerate securing national and provincial budgets through the development of a Geochang-type dementia-safe city model.
