The Ministry of Science and ICT is promoting plans to expand the transition of public medical institutions to AI-based medical systems. To this end, it will also consult with related ministries such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

On the 30th, Park Yoon-kyu, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, announced this plan at the 4th Digital National Task Continuous On-site Meeting held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul.

Vice Minister Park said, "Through generative ultra-large AI models, it is possible to analyze and infer an enormous amount of data about the complex biological systems of humans, enabling patient-tailored health management, which will accelerate the pace of medical innovation," and added that they will support domestic companies' entry into the global market.

He continued, "We will also support research and development so that digital therapeutic devices can expand not only to mental health but also to areas such as chronic diseases."

Hwang Hee, CEO of Kakao Healthcare, who was the first presenter, shared overseas expansion strategies based on his experience working as a professor at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital and expanding into the Middle East, Asia, and the United States.

Im Jin-hwan, CEO of AimMed, who developed the insomnia treatment device ‘Somzz’ and received the first domestic approval for a digital therapeutic device, presented the process of obtaining approval and future plans for overseas market expansion.

In the discussion, Professor Lim Joon of the University of Seoul suggested, "Since it is not easy for the elderly and marginalized groups to use AI-based medical services, there needs to be a more proactive discussion on how to actively bridge the information gap."

Lim Seok-hoon, Head of Business at Vuno, also said, "To become a true medical powerhouse, we must penetrate the US and European markets," and requested, "To obtain approvals such as from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), government-level support is necessary rather than individual company efforts."
