Brilliant fireworks blossomed in the night sky of Jinhae.

Changwon City, Gyeongnam, successfully held the 61st Jinhae Gunhangje Admiral Yi Sun-sin Victory Commemoration Maritime Fireworks Show at 8 p.m. on the 29th in front of Jinhaeru.

Over 20,000 citizens and tourists visited Jinhaeru to watch the fireworks show held for the first time in four years.

The city deployed about 600 safety personnel, including police officers, public officials, and safety staff, to prevent crowd accidents and focused on safety management from before the event started until after it ended and people returned home.

The newly introduced Mobile Warning System was operated twice to warn the crowd.

At 7 p.m., as a pre-event, the Jinhae Angelus Boys and Girls Choir performed, followed by a samulnori performance by the Navy Public Relations Team and a b-boy stage, raising the excitement.

Then, with the host’s countdown, the main fireworks show began. In line with the theme of “Admiral Yi Sun-sin Victory Commemoration,” the grand and splendid production decorated the night sky for 30 minutes. Each time the fireworks filled the night sky, the audience erupted in cheers.

That day’s fireworks show artistically depicted the Battle of Angolpo in 1592, where the Joseon navy led by Yi Sun-sin annihilated the Japanese navy in front of Jinhae. It combined colorful multimedia lighting, diverse fireworks, dynamic music, and narration telling the story of Yi Sun-sin’s victory, evoking admiration.

The scene where a large Niagara fireworks display depicted Yi Sun-sin defeating the Japanese navy drew cheers and moved many citizens.

One citizen said, “People often associate Jinhae with cherry blossoms, but before that, Jinhae is a hometown of patriotic loyalty filled with the spirit and soul of Admiral Yi Sun-sin.”

Despite the crowd of over 20,000, the fireworks show ended without a single minor accident.

Mayor Hong Nam-pyo said, “I thank all the spectators who watched the fireworks show held for the first time in four years along with the Jinhae Gunhangje in an orderly manner,” adding, “We will do our utmost to ensure safety management at the festival site so that no accidents occur during the remaining period.”
