POSCO E&C signed a business agreement on the 30th with six small and medium-sized ready-mixed concrete companies to expand the use of the eco-friendly cement 'PosMent.'
POSCO E&C will support silo facilities for the six companies selected through a public offering to expand the use of eco-friendly cement with excellent carbon reduction, and the small and medium-sized ready-mixed concrete companies will produce ready-mixed concrete mixed with eco-friendly cement such as PosMent.
The scope of support through this business agreement includes one silo facility (150~200 tons) per company, and the funds used for facility support are planned to be sourced from the large and small business win-win cooperation fund. Additionally, the small and medium-sized ready-mixed concrete companies will be responsible for installation and incidental costs.
PosMent is an eco-friendly cement developed by the POSCO Group, which uses blast furnace slag, a by-product from the steel production process, instead of limestone in cement manufacturing.
Unlike the general cement manufacturing process, PosMent uses up to 58% blast furnace slag, which does not require the raw material roasting process, enabling up to 60% reduction in carbon dioxide compared to ordinary cement.
A POSCO E&C official stated, "Through this silo support, we will not only realize the company's values of pursuing Eco and Challenge but also collaborate with excellent small and medium-sized partners to ensure eco-friendly cement can be used throughout the construction industry."
