Seoul City is set to revitalize the complex leisure and cultural hub around Sangam, centered on World Cup Park.

On the 30th, the city announced that it will publicize the "Spatial Structure Reorganization and Comprehensive Planning Service for the Activation of Major Hubs in the Sangam Area" on the 5th of next month and commence the service in May. This project was initiated to integrate and review the execution plans of various Sangam area projects, which had been developed and operated separately, into a single spatial plan. The service budget is 298 million KRW, and the service period is 10 months from the start date.

The Sangam area houses parks and cultural facilities such as World Cup Park, the Oil Tank Culture Park, and the World Cup Stadium. In the future, facilities like the resource recovery center and the Seoul Ring Zero Ferris wheel will also be established.

The city views the Sangam area not only as a geographical symbol known as the "Gateway to Seoul" but also as the optimal site to realize Seoul's future and environmental policies. Through this service, it plans to develop sustainable activation strategies, including linking park and cultural facilities, planning and operating programs, and improving accessibility.

Specifically, the plan includes creating waterfront-friendly spaces by utilizing the Han River and surrounding tributaries (Bulgwangcheon, Hyangdongcheon, Nanjicheon). Additionally, integrated educational and experiential programs related to the five major urban environmental issues (polluted air, polluted water, waste, carbon, and energy) will be operated to transform the area into a citizen-friendly space focused on climate and environment. Strategies will also be developed to support the stable promotion of private projects such as the DMC Landmark project.

Hong Seon-gi, Director of Future Space Planning at Seoul City, stated, "We will make the Sangam area an attractive space that Seoul citizens continue to visit and enhance Seoul's international status and competitiveness."
