The National Museum of Korea, in collaboration with the Asia Research Institute HK?Mega Asia Research Project Group AsIA Regional Humanities Center at Seoul National University, will hold the "2023 AsIA Humanities Asset Lecture - History and Culture of Mesopotamia" in four sessions from April 6 to 27.
The lecture series is organized into four themes that help understand the history, mythology, script, and art of Mesopotamia, linked to the Mesopotamia Exhibition Hall in the World Culture Hall established in July last year. The first lecture, "Mesopotamian History, From Beginning to End," starting on April 6, will introduce the overall history of Mesopotamia.
The second lecture on April 13, "Mesopotamian Mythology," and the third lecture on April 20, "Mesopotamian Cuneiform and Egyptian Hieroglyphs," will focus on mythology and scripts to shed light on Mesopotamian religion and society. The final lecture on April 27, "Mesopotamian Civilization and Art," will cover the artistic world of Mesopotamian civilization.
The "AsIA Humanities Asset Lecture" program was planned in 2021 to promote the dissemination and popularization of knowledge about Asian humanities assets. Following the previous lectures "Cities of the Asian Maritime Silk Road" and "Lacquer, Painting Asia," this year’s third lecture series will be conducted via live online streaming on the National Museum of Korea’s YouTube channel. From April 6 to April 27, every Thursday from 2 PM to 4 PM, the lectures will be streamed live on the National Museum of Korea’s YouTube channel, and anyone can participate without prior registration. After the lectures conclude, they will be available for replay on the museum’s YouTube channel.
