The 'Spring Flower Festival' will be held for the first time in four years at the old Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office area in Paldal-gu, Suwon-si, a famous cherry blossom festival spot in the Gyeonggi region.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 30th that from the 7th to the 9th of next month, the 'Spring Flower Festival' will be held at the old Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office area with various programs including cultural performances, experience booths, and sales booths.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government Spring Flower Festival is a representative festival of Gyeonggi Province, attracting more than 200,000 visitors annually by offering diverse content and attractions timed with the cherry blossom blooming near the old government office.
The province has not held the festival since 2020 due to COVID-19.
This year’s Gyeonggi Provincial Government Spring Flower Festival will be conducted as an eco-friendly festival minimizing waste generation in response to climate crises such as global warming. It will also be an inclusive festival involving participation from various groups including people with disabilities, the elderly, and youth. In particular, it plans to provide opportunities for economic revitalization through cooperation with social enterprises and local businesses around the old government office.
During the festival, a main performance will be held daily from 2 PM to 4 PM on the lawn at the old government office. The main performances include ▲ on the 7th, a collaboration performance by Pops Ensemble & Gugak Sinawi ▲ on the 8th, special performances by seven Gyeonggi youth teams ▲ on the 9th, indie musician performances along with street performances (busking), citizen talent shows, and club performances within the provincial office.
Yoo Tae-il, Director of the Provincial Autonomous Administration Bureau, said, "We expect this Spring Flower Festival to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local businesses near the old government office, which have been stagnant due to COVID-19 and the relocation of the provincial office," and promised, "Since this is the first event in four years, we will do our best to make it successful."
Meanwhile, the province will hold the 'Gyeonggi Opportunity Market' together with the famous domestic flea market 'Munhori River Market' at the old government office from the 1st to the 2nd of next month, one week before the Spring Flower Festival.
