On the 30th, Samsung C&T announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for hydrogen business cooperation utilizing 'SPERA hydrogen' technology with Chiyoda Corporation (hereinafter Chiyoda) at Chiyoda's headquarters in Yokohama, Japan.
Chiyoda is a leader in the new hydrogen transportation and storage technology called Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC). SPERA hydrogen refers to a method where hydrogen is converted by adding a chemical called toluene into methylcyclohexane (MCH), which facilitates long-distance transport and storage, and then hydrogen is separated after transportation.
Samsung C&T plans to participate in the construction of Chiyoda's SPERA hydrogen plant and actively seek related business opportunities. Both companies also agreed to continue discussions on decarbonization projects.
Samsung C&T is focusing on eco-friendly energy businesses as a pillar of future growth and is expanding its green hydrogen business. Through this agreement, the company has broadened its business scope from existing green hydrogen production and supply to include proven stable transportation and storage technology at ambient temperature and pressure.
The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Seong-jun, Head of Samsung C&T Plant Sales Team (Executive Director), and Sakurai Kimio, Head of Chiyoda Sales Division (Executive Director), among others. A Samsung C&T official stated, "We expect to create synergy in the hydrogen transportation and storage sector through cooperation with Chiyoda in constructing hydrogen conversion and extraction plants."
