Seongdong-gu Enhances Parking Convenience for Seoul Forest Visitors through Private Parking Lot Sharing
Public-Private-Academic Cooperation Utilizes Four Affiliated Parking Lots for Nighttime and Weekend Shared Parking, Securing a Total of 301 Shared Parking Spaces
Sharing 250 Parking Spaces at Seoul Forest Pohyu Knowledge Industry Center Improves Parking Convenience for Seoul Forest Visitors
Parking convenience in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu near Seoul Forest is expected to improve significantly.
Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced on the 30th that it will actively promote a parking space sharing project with major facilities such as the Seongsu-dong Knowledge Industry Center, schools, and churches to alleviate local parking difficulties.
On the 22nd, Seongdong-gu signed agreements with four locations including Seoul Forest Pohyu, a knowledge industry center in Seongsu-dong, SKV1 Tower near Seongsu Station, Muhak Middle School, and Seong-eun Church, planning to share idle parking spaces that are vacant during nighttime or weekends with residents.
Recently, Seongdong-gu has faced challenges securing parking lots due to rising land prices. The cost of creating a single parking space can reach up to 350 million KRW, and securing land itself is not easy.

Through this agreement, a total of 301 affiliated parking spaces across four locations have been secured, and the Seongdong-gu Urban Management Corporation will accept applications for resident-priority parking and allocate the idle parking spaces accordingly. Buildings participating in the parking sharing project will receive incentives such as support for parking facility improvement costs and reductions in traffic inducement charges to encourage voluntary participation.
During spring weekends, when outings increase, public parking lots near Seoul Forest often reach full capacity, making it difficult to find parking spaces. With this agreement, the Seoul Forest Pohyu Knowledge Industry Center located at Seoul Forest Station will share 250 parking spaces available to anyone during weekend daytime hours (Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM), contributing to improved parking convenience around Seoul Forest.
Moreover, in addition to Seongsu-dong, Ha Wangsimni-dong and Haengdang-dong are densely populated residential areas, and with nearby schools and churches participating in opening their affiliated parking lots, the parking shortage for local residents can be somewhat alleviated.
A district official stated, “This project will not only help resolve parking difficulties for residents in residential areas but also prevent illegal parking issues near Seongsu Station and Seoul Forest, while enhancing parking convenience for visitors, contributing to the development of local commerce and tourism industries.”
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “We plan to actively expand the parking sharing project in Seongdong-gu in the future, serving as a good example of sustainable development through cooperation with the local community. We hope the parking sharing project will contribute to coexistence and development within the community.”
Shinchon Yonsei-ro Crowded with People, General Vehicles Pass Smoothly
On the afternoon of the 30th, Shinchon Yonsei-ro in Seodaemun-gu was crowded with many citizens, while general vehicles were passing through without congestion.
General vehicle traffic has been allowed on Yonsei-ro since January 20 of this year, and the fully bloomed cherry blossoms are offering citizens a beautiful spring scenery.
