Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) announced that it has been selected for the ‘2023 Neighborhood Learning Center Within One Step Operation Project’ promoted by Seoul City for the fifth consecutive year.

The ‘Neighborhood Learning Center’ project utilizes idle local spaces as learning spaces so that residents can participate in lifelong learning nearby. The district is actively operating customized learning programs for residents through neighborhood learning centers established throughout its 16 neighborhoods.

Especially this year, it operates the most neighborhood learning centers among Seoul’s autonomous districts. Based on the active participation of the local lifelong learning network, the number of centers has expanded from 16 to 19.

The newly added centers are ▲Modurang Neighborhood Learning Center (Myeonmok 2-dong) ▲Yeolmyeon Neighborhood Learning Center (Myeonmok 4-dong) ▲Yeollin Neighborhood Learning Center (Sangbong 1-dong). The district plans to operate the lifelong learning project on the largest scale in Seoul by investing a total of about 120 million KRW, including approximately 60 million KRW in support funds from Seoul City.

From April, Jungnang-gu’s neighborhood learning centers will operate 92 ‘lifelong learning programs.’ Along with these, 33 ‘learning-practice projects’ that connect learning to community activities will also be run. Programs cover various themes including humanities, crafts, digital literacy, eco-friendliness, and health promotion. There are also programs designed for marginalized groups such as multicultural children, people with developmental disabilities, and families of dementia patients.

Any Jungnang-gu resident can participate in the programs. Residents wishing to apply for education can refer to the Jungnang-gu Lifelong Learning Center website to register.

Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Operating the neighborhood learning centers on the largest scale in Seoul is expected to increase lifelong learning participation among Jungnang-gu residents.” He added, “We will operate the neighborhood learning centers with substance and strive to make Jungnang-gu a leading lifelong learning city model that leads lifelong education in Korea.”
