SK Innovation Participates in Gwanghwamun Event Supporting Busan Expo Bid

"Full Effort to Attract Expo Until City Selection in November"

SK Innovation is participating in the ‘2030 Busan World Expo (Busan Expo)’ hosting support event held at Gwanghwamun Square in Jongno-gu, Seoul, with the theme of carbon reduction innovation technology.

SK Innovation announced that it will participate as a private hosting committee member in the Busan Expo hosting support event ‘Light Up at Gwanghwamun,’ held from the 30th of this month to the 3rd of next month, coinciding with the visit of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) inspection team to Korea.

SK Innovation’s promotional booth consists of the ‘Clean Mobility’ zone, which gathers carbon reduction innovation technologies; the ‘Together in Action’ zone, where visitors can directly participate in a roulette game; and the ‘Photo Booth’ zone for commemorative photo-taking.

In particular, the Clean Mobility zone showcases the present and future of carbon reduction innovation technologies such as electric vehicle batteries and materials. SK Innovation will present SK On’s SF (Super Fast) battery, which won the Best Innovation Award at CES 2023 held in Las Vegas, USA, last January, to domestic visitors. The SF battery, the fastest charging electric vehicle battery currently available, applies SK On’s unique cell design and coating technology to enable charging up to 80% in just 18 minutes.

There are also the upgraded version of NCM9, NCM9+, which SK On succeeded in mass production for the first time in the world; the lithium-ion battery separator (LiBS), a core material determining the safety and performance of lithium-ion batteries developed by SK IE Technology; and UD tape, a vehicle lightweighting material developed by SK Geocentric.

The Together in Action zone and Photo Booth zone are spaces where visitors can support the Busan Expo hosting through SNS events. Visitors can participate in the roulette game at the Together in Action zone and receive small souvenirs depending on the winning results. The souvenirs are eco-friendly products from social enterprises supported by SK Innovation, such as upcycled t-shirts made from waste plastic and notebook stands made from recycled paper, matching the exhibition theme.

An SK Innovation official said, “We judged that it would be effective to draw responses to the Busan Expo hosting by utilizing SK Innovation’s carbon reduction efforts and technologies to respond to the climate crisis,” adding, “Until the host city is selected in November, SK Innovation will run together with the entire nation for the Busan Expo, which will be a venue to present solutions to the problems facing humanity.”
