It has been revealed that So Gang-won, former Chief of Staff of the Defense Security Command, who was prosecuted for drafting martial law documents under the orders of former Commander Cho Hyun-cheon, was found guilty.
The Seoul Western District Court overturned the original verdict that acquitted former Chief of Staff So in the appeal trial on the charge of falsifying and using false official documents held on the 16th of last month, and sentenced him to a fine of 10 million won.
The court ruled that the documents drafted by former Chief of Staff So did not correspond to lawful acts under statutes and duties, and recognized that he had created and used false official documents.
However, the court also took into consideration that former Chief of Staff So's crime stemmed from the commander’s order to draft martial law-related documents, thereby acknowledging former Commander Cho’s order to draft the martial law documents.
Previously, former Chief of Staff So was prosecuted in February 2017 for drafting martial law documents and was acquitted in the first trial.
