50 Billion Won Invested Over 5 Years
Infrastructure Improvement, Shelter Creation, Resident Capacity Building, etc.
Nam-san District in Daegyo-dong, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do is expected to be reborn as a desirable place to live.
According to the city, on the 27th, Nam-san District in Daegyo-dong was selected in the ‘Vulnerable Area Living Conditions Improvement Project’ contest hosted by the National Balanced Development Committee.
Accordingly, the city will invest a total of 5 billion KRW, including 3 billion KRW in national funds, over five years until 2027 to improve living infrastructure such as housing and communal restroom maintenance, as well as create rest areas, restore modern heritage, and promote resident capacity-building projects.
As a result, the living conditions in Nam-san District, which was a refugee village where refugees lived collectively during the Korean War, are expected to improve significantly.
Previously, the city had been preparing for this contest since last year by carrying out preliminary projects such as installing solar streetlights and creating village maps, and actively supporting community activities through urban regeneration universities and resident briefings.
Jeong Gi-myeong, mayor of Yeosu, said, “The selection of Nam-san District in the contest has provided an opportunity for balanced development in relatively neglected areas,” adding, “We will continue to create a ‘Yeosu where all citizens are happy’ by improving the living environment and landscape of vulnerable areas within the city.”
Meanwhile, Yeosu City is currently building a related database to continuously promote urban regeneration contest projects in the future.
