Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is explaining the background of the screening to public officials ahead of watching the movie 'Next Sohee' on the 29th.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon urged public officials to be more sensitive and sincere about social issues after watching the movie Next Sohee with staff members.
On the 29th, after watching Next Sohee with about 370 employees at the provincial office, Governor Kim emphasized, "We need to be sensitive not only with a sense of social issues but also with a very sharp perspective," adding, "The main reason we serve as public officials is to help solve various problems faced by our residents and the people of the Republic of Korea, even if only a little."
He continued, "The protagonist in the movie, a student at a specialized high school, goes through very difficult circumstances. But even beyond specialized high school graduates, how many vulnerable people are struggling?" He added, "Although their situations, positions, and forms may differ, I believe we must work with sincerity for those around us who are facing hardships, which is why I recommended this film to you all. I hope you also take an interest in independent films like this one."
Governor Kim attracted attention by revealing that he was once "Sohee" himself about 40 years ago while recommending the film.
He recalled, "I was in the same position as the movie’s protagonist (Sohee) about 40 years ago. I graduated from a specialized high school and worked as a contract worker, not a regular employee, before graduating from my senior year of high school," adding, "Later, I wanted to study so much that I attended night college while working. In a way, I might have been much luckier than the protagonist in this film."
Earlier, on the 23rd of last month, Governor Kim mentioned the movie Next Sohee during an open meeting at the provincial office and promised to provide movie viewing opportunities to employees who wished to participate.
Directed by Jung Joo-ri, the film Next Sohee tells the story of Sohee, a specialized high school student about to graduate who goes on an internship at a large corporation’s call center, where she suffers verbal abuse, sexual harassment, and unfair treatment, eventually passing away. A detective then investigates the full circumstances surrounding her death.
The province will screen the film starting with a group viewing at the Gwanggyo office building on the day, followed by screenings on the 29th at the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters main conference room and the Northern Fire Headquarters main conference room, on the 30th at the provincial office Northern Building, and on the 31st at the Fire Academy auditorium.
