Chairman Group of Zhejiang Haihang Visits BPA
‘Busan Port’ will resume exchange and cooperation with Chinese ports after three years.
The Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced on the 28th that Mao Jianhong (毛劍宏), chairman of Zhejiang Seaport Group in China, and his delegation visited the Busan Port Authority to discuss mutual cooperation plans with President Kang Jun-seok.
Chairman Mao Jianhong previously served as chairman of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group, the world's largest port by tonnage, and currently serves as chairman of Zhejiang Seaport Group, which manages all ports within Zhejiang Province, including Ningbo-Zhoushan Port.
Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA (5th from the left), and Mao Jianhong, Chairman of Zhejiang Haihang Group, China (6th from the left), along with other officials from both sides, stood in front of the camera pledging exchange and cooperation between the ports.
Ningbo-Zhoushan Port recorded a total cargo volume of 1.25 billion tons in 2022, maintaining its position as the world's number one port by tonnage for 14 consecutive years. Its container throughput also reached 33.35 million TEUs, establishing it as the world's third-largest container port.
With the easing of COVID-19, the visit by the head of the Chinese port group to Busan Port after more than three years allowed both sides to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two ports, current operational status, and future development directions.
Chairman Mao Jianhong said, “Busan and Ningbo had exchanges every year before COVID-19. Now, let us work together again to discover new areas of cooperation.”
President Kang Jun-seok expressed agreement and hoped for active support in attracting the 2030 Busan Expo.
President Kang said, “This year marks the first year of resuming exchanges with Chinese ports. Starting with the visit of the Zhejiang Seaport Group chairman, we will further expand exchanges with major Chinese ports and maintain close relationships. Based on this, we will strive to facilitate smooth exports of our companies to China.”
