[2023 Property Disclosure] Oh Se-hoon, Seoul Mayor, 6.4 Billion KRW... Ranked 1st Among Nationwide Metropolitan Leaders

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon reported assets exceeding 6.4 billion KRW, an increase of more than 500 million KRW compared to the previous report. He ranked second in asset declaration after Kim Young-hwan, Governor of Chungcheongbuk-do, but since Governor Kim had overlapping declarations during the sale of a building, Mayor Oh is effectively the wealthiest among metropolitan local government heads.

On the 30th, the Government Official Ethics Committee disclosed the asset declarations of public officials subject to disclosure, including political appointees in the executive branch, senior civil service grades, metropolitan and basic local government heads, metropolitan council members, and city/provincial superintendents of education, through the official gazette.

Mayor Oh declared assets worth 6,439,270,000 KRW this time. The increase in assets was 537,010,000 KRW. The growth in Mayor Oh’s assets was due to the rise in publicly announced land prices of buildings owned by himself and his spouse, as well as an increase in bank deposits.

Kim Young-hwan, Governor of Chungcheongbuk-do, who previously declared 949,680,000 KRW, declared 6,645,760,000 KRW this time, an increase of 5,696,080,000 KRW. However, this was a temporary increase due to incomplete registration following the sale of a building he owned. The amount of the building sold by Governor Kim was 5,725,000,000 KRW, which was mostly used to repay his previously declared debt of 8,000,000,000 KRW.

Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon showed the largest increase in assets among metropolitan local government heads excluding Governor Kim. Mayor Park declared 5,734,290,000 KRW, an increase of 1,049,720,000 KRW compared to last year. Most of the increase was due to the rise in publicly announced land prices of real estate owned by his wife and himself.

Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon declared the smallest amount of assets among the 17 metropolitan local government heads. Governor Oh reported assets of 666,340,000 KRW, an increase of 18,670,000 KRW compared to last year.

The metropolitan local government head with the largest decrease in assets was Sejong Mayor Choi Min-ho, who declared assets worth 2,177,480,000 KRW, a decrease of 1,456,290,000 KRW. Mayor Choi’s assets decreased by more than 1.2 billion KRW after correcting the value of an apartment jointly owned with his wife in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

Meanwhile, Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min declared assets worth 4,435,070,000 KRW, an increase of 191,500,000 KRW. Nam Hwa-young, Acting Commissioner of the National Fire Agency, declared assets worth 1,350,600,000 KRW.
