Public Hearing Held for Draft Environmental Impact Assessment of Shin Hanul Nuclear Power Units 3 and 4

A public hearing on the draft construction project for Shin Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Units 3 and 4 was held on the 29th.

The hearing, organized by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (President Hwang Ju-ho), took place at the Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters Public Relations Center auditorium, with about 650 local residents in attendance.

At the hearing, chaired by Professor Jang Yoon-young of the Department of Environmental Engineering at Kwangwoon University, local residents raised numerous questions regarding measures to minimize environmental impact, improvements to the surrounding area's traffic conditions, and nuclear power plant safety. KHNP responded with updates and plans related to the project.

Local residents showed interest in resolving regional demands such as revitalizing the local economy through the construction of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4. KHNP plans to review the opinions presented at the hearing and reflect them in the final evaluation report.

Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 is a project to construct two new 1.4 million kW-class nuclear reactors. According to the 10th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand, the units are scheduled to be completed in 2032 and 2033, respectively. KHNP intends to contribute to the development of the Uljin-gun local economy by creating many jobs and implementing regional support projects during the construction period.
