Promotion of Activation for 64 Station Areas in Incheon Original Downtown... Discovering Key Projects for Each Station Area

Incheon City announced on the 29th that it will conduct an external agency service to prepare measures for revitalizing the old downtown station areas.

The service target areas are 64 old downtown station areas (45.43㎢) located on the Gyeongin Line, Incheon Lines 1 and 2, Seoul Line 7, and Suin Line routes. The service period is from June this year to June next year.

Through the service, the city plans to establish an institutional foundation necessary for station area revitalization projects and encourage the participation of private companies and public institutions in development projects.

Additionally, the city will discover customized hub projects for each station area and prepare project execution strategies and financing plans. Furthermore, execution plans for three pilot project districts will also be established.

The old downtown area continues to stagnate due to population decline, aging buildings and industrial infrastructure, and job losses, while the imbalance between the steadily growing new towns centered on economic free zones and the region is increasing.

Moreover, railway stations such as the Gyeongin Line and Incheon Lines 1 and 2, located throughout the old downtown area, have high potential but are gradually declining due to a lack of infrastructure and convenience facilities and aging.

Accordingly, the city has decided to promote the service to prepare revitalization measures for the old downtown station areas by analyzing the current status of station areas throughout the old downtown, excluding economic free zones and island areas, to identify regional characteristics and link with adjacent areas and existing plans.

An Incheon City official stated, "We will promote innovation and balanced development of the old downtown through station area revitalization," and added, "We will do our best to maximize the project effects such as regional economic revitalization and job creation."
