Traffic Control on Yeouiseo-ro Cherry Blossom Road Moved Up Starting 10 AM on April 1
Over 100 Personnel Deployed Daily from March 31 to April 2 for ‘Pre-Order Maintenance on Cherry Blossom Road’
Comprehensive Situation Room Operation, Illegal Parking Enforcement, and More for a Safe and Pleasant Cherry Blossom Road
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) will implement traffic control on Yeouiseo-ro’s cherry blossom road starting at 10 AM on April 1, earlier than originally planned, due to the earlier-than-expected cherry blossom blooming.
Since the full-scale opening of the 15th Spring Flower Festival in 2019, the cherry blossom road was closed for three years due to COVID-19. This year, the ‘17th Yeongdeungpo Yeouido Spring Flower Festival’ will be held from April 4 to 9, marking its return after four years.
This year’s festival, under the theme ‘Spring Again,’ will host an eco-friendly event including a zero single-use product food market. It aims to raise citizens’ awareness of global environmental crises such as climate change and offer various cultural events so that everyone can fully enjoy the vibrant spring.
Due to mild weather, the cherry blossoms bloomed earlier than usual on March 26. Preparing for many spring visitors to Yeouiseo-ro’s cherry blossom road during the weekend before the festival, the district will deploy over 100 personnel daily from March 31 to April 2 to intensively manage order along the cherry blossom road area.
During the pre-order maintenance period for the Spring Flower Festival, starting at 10 AM on April 1, traffic control on the Yeouiseo-ro cherry blossom road section (from the southern end of Seogang Bridge to the northern end of Yeoui 2 Bridge, 1.7 km) will be implemented earlier than planned. However, the lower road (from the Seogang Bridge South Public Parking Lot to Yeoui Haryu IC section) will be controlled as originally scheduled starting at 12 PM on April 3.
Bike racks for Seoul Bike (Ddareungi) within the cherry blossom road section will be closed, and for pedestrian safety, personal mobility devices such as bicycles and kickboards will be prohibited from operating on the cherry blossom road. Additionally, on-street parking along Yeouiseo-ro will be unavailable, and the entire cherry blossom road will be designated a temporary no-smoking zone to prevent fires due to dry weather.
The district will set up a comprehensive situation room, medical support room, and order maintenance booths along the cherry blossom road to manage pedestrian safety and basic order, while intensively cracking down on illegal parking and mobile street vendors.
Furthermore, to ensure a convenient and safe cherry blossom walk for citizens, temporary restrooms will be installed, and with the cooperation of the National Assembly, access to the National Assembly’s open restrooms will be provided.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We are making every effort with related departments and agencies to prepare for order maintenance and safety management so that visitors to the cherry blossom road during the first weekend of April, when the blossoms have arrived earlier than usual, can enjoy a safe and pleasant walk.” He added, “We ask citizens visiting the cherry blossom road to use public transportation as much as possible and to observe basic order.”
